Every culture and society can usually relate to the idea of The Force in some way because it connects us to the basic ideas of good vs. evil, it reflects feelings and beliefs around our most ancient traditions and enduring religious mythologies communicating universal truths without confining the force energy to one particular group or structure.
"The act of living generates a force field, an energy. That energy surrounds us; when we die, that energy joins with all the other energy. There is a giant mass of energy in the universe that has a good side and a bad side. We are part of the Force because we generate the power that makes the Force live. When we die, we become part of that Force, so we never really die; we continue as part of the Force."
—George Lucas describing the Force during an Empire Strikes Back production meeting
The Force was an energy field that connected all living things in the galaxy. The power of the Force could be used by individuals who were sensitive to it, a power that was tapped through training and knowledge of the force.
The two main practitioners of the Force's power were the Jedi Order and the Sith.
Technically speaking The Force wasn't created. It was always there. The Force in the Star Wars universe takes into account 6 principle aspects:
1. Light side : Morally good; the power of compassion, selflessness, self-knowledge and enlightenment, healing, mercy and benevolence
2. Dark side : Morally bad; the power of hatred, fear, covetousness, anger, aggression, jealousy and malevolence
3. Living force : Energy of living things
4. Unifying force : Space & Time
5. Cosmic force : Life & Death
6. Physical force : These are the laws governing the functioning of the universe
